Larry Winston Collins was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Collins received his BFA degree from Columbus College of Art, and Design, in Columbus, Ohio, and his MFA degree from the Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. Collins also received a fellowship to attend the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. Before pursuing a career as a fine artist, Collins worked as a graphics designer. Collins, also an educator, is a Retired Professor Emeritus from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.
Collins has received many awards including grants from the Ohio and Greater Columbus Arts Councils, a travel fellowship awarded for study in Dakar, Senegal, West Africa, and a printmaking residency at the Dresden Graphic Workshop in Dresden Germany. Collins works are in many private and public collections including, the Pizzuti Art Collection, Columbus Art Museum, Cincinnati Art Museum and Miami University Art Museum. Collins art works along with photos by Kojo Kamau can be seen on the Columbus Cultural Wall on Long Street.
Collins exhibits widely nationally and internationally. Collins’ art works ranges from drawings, printmaking, and mixed media paintings, sculptures and photography. Collins sometimes combines various disciplines to create a technique he refers to as “Art Fusion”. Collins now resides in Cincinnati, Ohio.
